Visit to Kochi Muziris Biennale 2026
On 30 and 31 March 2026 we visited the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, one of India's most significant contemporary art events. This visit was not about showcasing our work. It was about observing, learning, and understanding the evolving language of art and space.
Experiencing the space
The Biennale presented a wide range of installations, artworks and spatial concepts set within heritage structures. Each work had its own identity, some minimal, some bold, but all carried strong ideas and expressions.
Walking through these spaces helped us see:
- How art interacts with architecture
- How materials are used beyond function
- How storytelling shapes the experience
Insights we gained
This visit gave us valuable insights into how traditional and modern approaches can coexist. We observed the importance of concept-driven design, the use of raw and natural materials in new ways, and the role of space, light and texture in creating impact.
It also reminded us that every creation, whether simple or detailed, should carry meaning.
Reflection for our work
At Chithira Maadam our work is rooted in heritage, especially Chettinad craftsmanship and reclaimed materials. This visit encouraged us to think more deeply about presentation and context, to explore new design perspectives while staying grounded, and to continue valuing old materials and the stories they carry.
Moving ahead
The Kochi-Muziris Biennale was a refreshing experience that expanded our way of seeing art and design. We return with new thoughts, quiet inspiration, and a stronger intention to create work that connects tradition, space and purpose.
