Every temple has its guardian near the entrance, standing watch with a raised hand of blessing. This Murugan statue is carved the same way, from a single block of solid Burma teak, right down to the stepped lotus pedestal beneath his feet. Our craftsmen in Madurai spend weeks on a piece like this, working the vel in his hand and the folds of his garland by eye, the way it has been done for generations.
A striking centerpiece for a puja room, entrance, or a collector's shelf.
Size: 780 x 300 x 130 mm (H x W x D)
A note on handmade work
Every piece is carved by hand. Poses, floral motifs, colour and the natural grain of the wood shift a little from one piece to the next. That variation is the point, not a flaw.
