SDGs (Sustainability Development Goals)

At Chitra Madam, we believe in mindful creation and cultural continuity. Our work revolves around restoring and reviving old wood - honouring the materials that carry time within them. While we do take on new wood projects upon request, we prioritise refurnishing old goods, contributing in our own way to the principles of sustainability.

Through this approach, we naturally align with several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which guide us in our current and future projects.

We believe in fair, safe, and respectful working conditions. Our process involves a network of local workers - such as wood trimmers, polishers, finishers, transporters, and helpers - whose livelihoods are supported through each project.

By reviving old wood and reusing discarded materials, we minimize waste and reduce the need for fresh resource extraction. This process helps promote a circular economy and encourages thoughtful, lasting design.

Reclaimed wood reduces the environmental impact that comes from sourcing and processing new timber. Our practice helps lower emissions and reduces strain on forest ecosystems, making every project a small step toward climate responsibility.

We avoid unnecessary deforestation by giving existing wood new life. In doing so, we support more sustainable land use, helping reduce the pressure on forests and preserving habitats connected to them.

We don’t claim perfection, but we move with intention - choosing methods that are respectful, thoughtful, and grounded in care for both people and the planet.

We ensure safety measures like protective gear, proper ventilation, and dust control are in place, creating a work environment that values both health and dignity.
